The undisputed pioneer of Pakistani gospel music heritage. A Punjabi evangelist and poet from Zafarwal, he produced the first metrical translation of the entire Book of Psalms into Punjabi, known as Punjabi Zabur, completing all 150 psalms set to local ragas between 1888 and 1908. Earned a Doctor of Divinity from Tarkio College, Missouri. His translations are still sung in Pakistani churches today, making him arguably the single most enduring influence in Pakistani Christian worship music. Died 1921 in Bhalwal, Pakistan.
